Snow Day

SNOW DAY!!!!!

I have been waiting for this day since January of 2007. I am crazy about snow...I just love it. I love watching it, walking in it, scraping it off my car, eating it (with fruit flavoured squash, of course, in the traditional sno-cone fashion) - you get the picture. This year is living up to the expectations I had when I moved here. January was fabulously cold with lovely white days that lasted for weeks. Ah, the elusive snow at last! A frozen lake to glide on! But it was easy, much too easy. My street was gritted so there was no problem driving. The pavement was cleared everyday so there was no problem walking anywhere. It was really really cold so you didn't get very wet. I suppose what I really wanted was to be inconvenienced. Wholy and utterly inconvenienced by the weather. The wait has been a long one and I'm afraid that I had given up all hope of experiencing such a day. But today it happened. For the first time, I had to dig my way to the real world, clear my drive to get my day going and it was awesome! Threw my muckboots on, threw off my coat, grabbed the shovel and went to town, first getting my car unstuck then clearing the whole darn drive. It was brilliant.

I love weekends...

Ah, it's Friday once again and I can't wait until tomorrow when I wake up and realise that I don't have to be anywhere at 9am.

Tonight is horseback riding and I'm sure my wondrous steed (called Apache) will try throwing me off again. He's moved from straight bucking to a kind of sideways bucking in hopes of getting me off but I've managed to stay on this far. no apples for him if he succeeds.

Tomorrow is ice skating day with Steinvor...did I mention that I had bought a pair of beautiful ice skates? Inspired by the freezing temperatures and Steinvor's ice skating capabilities (fantastic!) I have gotten my own pair of ice skates in hopes of one day being competent on the ice. I am what I call ' an off the waller', in that, I have just graduated from holding on to the wall to skating beside it. Well done me! Steinvor is teaching me the forward cross over (harder than it looks) and I've managed to go around a few times without falling and hurting myself. I'm afraid that my years and years on roller skates doesn't really give me any sort of advantage on the ice rink and that I'm one of those people who might be mistaken for one of ladies whose been inspired by 'Dancing on Ice' and has gotten a pair of skates to become the new ingenue of the ice rink...I don't think so.

My new girlie ice skates...Risport Etoile...gotta love these.

I keep forgetting to blog!

I've gotten so out of the habit of blogging that I've forgotten that I have a blog. I seem to justify not blogging because a)everyone uses facebook to keep things up to date, b) I don't actually think that people look at this and c) I don't suppose there's anything going on that deserves blogging. BUT there are some cool happenings in my near future...Juliana turns 8 in February...Kit Kat turns 6 in April...going to Madrid in May...going camping/backpacking in Wyoming with the McElroy's in June!

My cool new North Face Summit Series 2 in 1 Jacket with Gortex outer shell and detachable inner fleece...bring it on Tetons!

It's time to get off my butt and start blogging again...

But then what's the difference between blogging and facebooking? And then there's Twitter which I haven't figured out how to work. It's all so confusing!

Technical Difficulties

I'm afraid that I've been having some technical difficulties posting my pictures (the keyboard doesn't work on my home desktop computer and I'm just too lazy to sort it out.) I did manage to somehow make this collage and so perhaps this will give you just a little glimpse of what has been going on with me in the last 6 months.

Starting top left and going clockwise: on the road to Gairloch for camping, fall foliage, Sophie with her bug hat (we all looked like idiots but these saved our asses!), frozen everything (it was -4 C all day - brrrr!)
